The F-16 Fighting Falcon appeared in the late 1970s. It was designed by General Dynamics to serve as a multirole fighter jet. In 1980, the 510th Fighter Squadron stood up at MacDill Air Force Base. It became part of the U.S. Air Force after being established to operate F-16 jets.
