The Grumman F-14A Tomcat TransportTag is a unique collectible item featuring genuine skin of an actual combat-experienced F-14! This particular tag is #049 of a limited edition of just 750 ever made.
This genuine F-14A tag was carefully cut from retired airframe BuNo 161296, a Tomcat with a rich and unique wartime history.
In 1978, #161296 made an emergency landing on the USS Kitty Hawk after one of its main gear failed to deploy. This was immortalized in photos of #191296 barreling into the barrier net, becoming such a famous and iconic F-14 moment,it was recreated inTop Gun: Maverick in theTomcat landing finale!
This is not a movie prop aircraft -- this is a piece of the original F-14A that made the real emergency landing!
Thankfully #161296 was able to be repaired and put into service again. This F-14A again made history when it became the only Tomcat to use its 20mm Vulcan cannon in live enemy combat. The aircraft was decommissioned in 2003 and was broken down for parts.
TransportTags obtained a surviving piece of #161296 in 2025, carefully laser-cut it into individual collectible tags and beautifully laser-etched the aircraft's history and unique folding-wing design onto its surface. The original aircraft paint, including the discolorations and scratches from real-life use, are preserved in their original state and undamaged by the beautifully reflective etching design. The dings and darkened spots aren't mistakes here--they are part of the history of this real combat-surviving F-14A Tomcat!
