1997 McDonnell Douglas F/A-18D Hornet M45-01
Malaysia RMAF Photo 8x10
First F/A-18D Hornet Delivered to Malaysia\'s TUDMDESCRIPTIONThis is an original color press photograph issued by McDonnell Douglas, showing a pair of Royal Malaysian Air Force F/A-18D Hornet strike fighters in formation flight. The lead aircraft carries the tail marking \"TUDM M45-01,\" identifying it as M45-01 of the Tentera Udara DiRaja Malaysia, No. 18 Squadron, known as \"The Mighty Hornets,\" based at Butterworth Air Base.In 1997 Malaysia became the first Southeast Asian nation to take delivery of the F/A-18D, receiving eight aircraft in two batches that year. M45-01 was among the first four Hornets delivered and went on to lead the type into Malaysian service as \"Hornet #1.\" Twenty years later, in 2017, M45-01 was repainted in a special commemorative scheme marking two decades of Hornet operations with the RMAF, a scheme that has since been reproduced in aftermarket decal sets and diecast models built specifically around this aircraft. The photograph measures approximately 8 x 10 inches on the original photographic paper, with an image area of roughly 7.5 x 9 inches. Color is vivid and well saturated with sharp focus throughout, printed on Kodak professional photographic paper consistent with period McDonnell Douglas corporate photo lab output.Every effort is made toward fact-checking and provenance, including background research through news and historical archives.
