On the reverse a period newswire date stamp in red MAY 22 1947 with the correct month and day but the wrong third digit which should have been set to "2" not "4" then hand corrected by the newswire service in red pencil as " 1927 ".


The Spirit of St. Louis (Registration: N-X-211) is the custom-built, single engine, single-seat, high wing monoplane flown by Charles A. Lindbergh on the first solo nonstop transatlantic flight from New York, to France.


Charles Augustus Lindbergh (b.1902-d.1974) was an American aviator, military officer, author, inventor, and activist. At the age of 25, he attained world fame by making the first nonstop flight from New York City to Paris on May 20–21, 1927 in his plane the Spirit of St. Louis (Registration: N-X-211) a custom-built, single engine, single-seat, high wing monoplane that he flew the first solo nonstop transatlantic flight from New York, to France.
