F4U1D / FG1D Corsair'Mudfighter' was the first Marine fighter to use HVARs, HE bombs, and napalm. F4U1D was first with ‘brow’ switches, and used over Iwo Jima and Okinawa.
F4U4 Corsair ‘4-hog’- ‘Sweetheart of Okinawa.’ F4U4 was the fastest accelerating aircraft in the Pacific. Many F4U1s were factory modified to F4U4 specs to overtake Kamikazes. The ‘4-hog’ reached its zenith over Korea using ATAR 6.5” shaped charge anti-tank rocket against Russian built T34s.
F4U7 Corsairwere built for French Aéronavale and flew non-stop for France over Dien Bien Phu, Suez, and Algeria from 1954-61. F4U7s became a 'tank killer' with wire guided SS11 anti tank missiles.
