NAVAL AIR STATION, NORTH ISLAND, Ca. (Jan. 26, 2011) An E/A-18G Growler from the \"Vikings\" of Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 129, based at Naval Air Station (NAS) Whidbey Island, Wash., arrives at NAS North Island. The Growler is painted in a throwback three-tone paint scheme (circa 1944), honoring Air Group 85 which operated from USS Shangri-La (CV 34) during World War II. The specially-painted Growler is one of more than 200 naval aircraft, from pre-World War II to the present day, participating in a Parade of Flight over San Diego Bay, kicking off a series of nationwide events celebrating the Centennial of Naval Aviation. Electronic Attack Squadron One Two Nine is a non-deploying shore squadron, stationed at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, in Oak Harbor, Washington.

VAQ-129 is the United States Navy\'s Fleet Replenishment Squadron for EA-18G Growlers. Serving the United States Navy and United States Air Force, the Vikings of VAQ-129 train freshly pinned Naval Aviators and Naval Flight Officers. The Vikings also provide continuing education for Aviators and NFOs who have been to the fleet.

VAQ-129 has the pleasure of rolling out the EA-18G Growler to the Navy. This transition period from the EA-6B to EA-18G began in June 2008, and will continue for the foreseeable future.

The Vikings also develop and revise standard operating procedures for maintenance and operation programs for the EA-6B Prowler and EA-18G Growler. Similarly to the Aviators and NFOs, 129 maintainers train maintenance personnel from squadrons transitioning from the EA-6B to EA-18G on the latest procedures for the Growler.
