US WWII AIRCRAFT IFF BOX-IDENTIFICATION-FRIEND OR FOE:
$74.50
The IFF system was developed to help distinguish friendly aircraft from enemyplanes, particularly when flying in large formations. This control assemblyoperated a series of colored recognition lights mounted on the aircraft. Priorto each mission, flight crews were issued a specific coded sequence of lightcolors. When an aircraft approached the formation, the pilot would trigger theIFF box to flash the prearranged color pattern. If the colors matched the day’scode, the aircraft was confirmed as friendly.
