Here is a remarkable and absorbing Air France travel poster created by Lucien Boucher in his inimitable and fanciful planisphere style entitled "Global Air Network." Boucher (1889-1971) was known as "Monsieur Planisphere" at Air France and he created numerous posters for them between 1935 and the late 1950's. This particular map is considered to be one of his best realizations of the global reach Air France held in the 1950's. Beyond the obvious travel poster pipe dreams of exotic places and peoples, this print emphasized Air France's modern air fleet with prominent placement of both Lockheed's state-of-the-art turboprop Super Constellation, and the ultra reliable Vickers Viscount turboprop.
This is the large format version from a limited edition of 500 lithographed posters that were printed by Perceval of Paris in 1952. It is realized on vellum in a 37.5" X 23.5" format. It has been affixed to a hardboard backing, surface shellacked, and mounted in a sleek 44.5"x 30.5" mid-century wood frame by Ashford Fine Arts of Ashford, Kent England. This is a rare original print from the original run, not a reproduction. There is some fading and aging apparent, but overall the poster and original frame are in good condition and will make a stunning focal point in the right setting.
