The General Dynamics (later to become Lockheed Martin) F-16 Fighting Falcon is a single engine multi-role jet fighter aircraft originally developed for the United States Air Force (USAF). It evolved into an all-weather multi-role aircraft capable of sustaining 9G turns. The F-16 is relatively inexpensive to purchase and maintain, so the U.S. and 25 other countries added them to their inventory. This aircraft is known by it's pilots as the "Viper" and will remain in the USAF inventory until 2025. Over 4,500 have been manufactured for the United States Air Force and other countries.
This aircraft belongs to the 8th Fighter Squadron out of Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico. On 04 August 2017, the 8th Fighter Squadron was re-activated after six years of inactivation. The squadron will join the 311th and 314th Fighter Squadrons as part of the 54th Fighter Group, and under control of the 56th Fighter Wing. There are more than 40 Falcons based at Holloman. The squadrons duties will be to qualify new and former F-16 pilots.
This aircraft with serial number 88-0454 was manufactured in late 1989 and spent time with five other squadrons before being assigned to the 8th Fighter Squadron as their flagship.
