Own a piece of Cold War history! This batch was made using the skin of a North American Aviation F-86F Sabre gun magazine access panel. This part is relatively small, weighing around five pounds. This panel is located on both sides of the forward fuselage, and is used to access the magazines for the 6 Browning .50 caliber machine guns. This part was acquired from a private party. The part was very weathered with paint starting to peel off. The full history of this aircraft part is unknown.The coin measures approximately 1.75" in diameter, and the plastic case measures approximately 2".
The F-86 Sabre is one of America's most iconic fighter aircraft. It was the first swept wing jet fighter to serve the United States Air Force. Different variants of the F-86 were produced, touting different armament configurations and electronics. The last remaining Sabre are proudly displayed across the US. As of 2011, there are at least 50 airworthy Sabres that still roam the skies. The F-86 played a crucial role in America's transition from the piston age to the jet age.
