The San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway - The Story of the Famous \"SAP\" Railway:
$125.00

The story of a creator - Uriah Lott - and his creation - the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway - captures the action, the pathos, and the personality of one of the most important medium-size railroads in Texas. The San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway Company was chartered on August 28, 1884, to connect San Antonio with Aransas Bay, a distance of 135 miles. The line built additional track to Corpus Christi, Kerrville and Waco, and by 1891 the SA&AP was operating 688 miles of main track. Typical of railroads of the day, it went through receivership and a variety of ownership structures. This scarce volume recounts the history of the SA&AP, describes the equipment, the personnel, and has a long chapter on wrecks.Signed by one of the two authors (Geoffrey S. Dawson) and by the original owner, who is included in a photo on page 44. It is also signed by J.O.B. \"Swede\" Johnson, a retired Katy machinist and SAP historian who contributed to the book and whose picture is on page 55 along with a nice write-up about him.

147 pages with photographs, map and rosters.
