In a North Carolina field, on a windy December day back in 1903, Orville and Wilbur Wright achieved a controlled, powered flight lasting some 12 seconds and travelled 120 feet. History had been made.
Later in the century, another aviation pioneer, Amy Johnson, captured the world\'s attention and imagination by making the first female solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean in May 1930.
