JULY 1929 TRAVEL TRADE MAGAZINE FOR TRAVEL & TOUR AGENCY BUSINESS VOL 1 NO 1:
$5.99

-- JULY 1929 TRAVEL TRADE MAGAZINE ---- PREMIERE ISSUE VOLUME 1 NUMBER 1 ---- BUSINESS MAGAZINE WRITTEN FOR TRAVEL AND TOUR AGENTS ---- \"THE BUSINESS PAPER OF THE INDUSTRY THAT SERVES THE TRAVELER\" --
Debuting July 1929--just three months before the U.S. stock market crash leading to the Great Depression--TRAVEL TRADE magazine\'s very first issue carried no ads. Instead, it ran a full page pitch on the inside front cover promising future advertisers that the publication will \"Reach the group...that controls the tourist and traveler business--with virtually no waste.\"
Among the articles in this initial two-color (red and black) issue: Profits from Window Displays, How to Handle Bargain Hunter Tourists, and Building and Using a Prospect List. But by far the best offering is Air Travel: A New Source of Profit in which the \"Air Transportation\" associate editor explained how travel agents could gain new revenue from a nascent flying public. For example, \"It is generally found advisable to have the person in charge of your air travel department take an airplane ride during spare time to acquaint himself with the advantages, thrill and time-saving element of air travel, that he may be able to talk more intelligently with prospective customers.\"
The author continued: \"Special clothing for airplane travel is unnecessary,\" since the enclosed cabins of \"established passenger air lines\" had interiors \"similar to those of a railroad parlor car.\" However, if the customer opted for an open-cockpit charter plane trip, \"the traveler should equip himself with a pair of goggles and a helmet.\" Travel Trade also published American commercial airline schedules for agents\' convenience.
