The Airbus A340 family are long range, wide body, commercial passenger jet airliners. The A340-500 was developed from the smaller A340-300. It is 223 feet long, seat 270-310 passengers and has a range of 7,300 miles. The A340-500 and 600 have a larger wing and are powered by the Rolls Royce Trent 500 engine, each with 62,000 pounds of thrust.
The Airbus A340-600 flew for the first time on 23 April, 2001. The Airbus 340 production program came to an end on 10 November, 2011, due to the competition with the Boeing 777 which could carry as many passengers, as far and with significantly less fuel, as it had only two engines. Most A340-600's have been replaced by twin engine airliners.
Virgin Atlantic Airlines is a British airline with its head office in Crawley, West Sussex, England. The airline was founded in 1984 and began operations in June of that year. The airline currently has a fleet of 44 wide body aircraft consisting of Airbus and Boeing aircraft. Virgin's historical fleet consisted of 70 aircraft with 30 Airbus A340-300 and 600 series aircraft providing service from 1993 to 2020.
This aircraft with registration G-VSHY , had its maiden flight on 11 June 2002. It was delivered to Virgin Atlantic on 26 July 2002. It provided service with Virgin Atlantic until July of 2013 when it was sold to Hi Fly Malta Airlines. In May of 2015 it was sold to Mahan Airlines, with a new registration number, EP-MMG, and currently remains in service.
This 1:400 scale, diecast reproduction of Virgin Atlantic Airlines Airbus A340-642 is a very rare, extremely detailed and out of production model. The approximate dimensions are 7.50" long with a 6.50" wingspan. It comes with detailed engines, detailed landing gear with rolling rubber tires, excellent razor sharp Virgin Atlantic graphics, and a display stand. The box has minor storage wear.
