Valencian Community
This Autonomous Community is a prototypical example of the "Mediterranean
Spain", with a fantastic climate and more than 500 kilometers of coast. It
is decidedly one of the country's most touristical areas.
If you want to discover more than just sun and sand, you will find remains
of most remote civilizations, Phoenicians, Greeks, Iberians and Romans.
The Moorish legacy is still present in traditional artisany and
agriculture with its praised oranges as well as rice. The conquests of
Jaime de Aragon led to the foundation of the kingdom of Valencia, more or
less at the territiory of todays Community.
Bathed in Mediterranean sun, giving warmth and that special kind of light
that Sorolla immortalized on canvas the Valencian Community is a beatiful
place to live or visit. You'll be pleasantly surprised by the City itself
and the warm, inviting character of its inhabitants. We ask you to
discover it for yourself and enjoy the the extensive range of activities
that await you.
Valencia
The capital, with outstanding monuments in particular of Gothic period, as
La Lonja and the bell-tower Miguelete.
The rich variety ol Valencian cuisine, reflecting the diversity of local
products, is another ol the pleasant surprises that await you. Among the
region's well known dishes, Valencian paella is the true protagonist.
Genuine paella is done over a wood fire, with the broth being prepared
first before adding the rice. Home of the Paella and many other delights
of a gastronomical nature, you are sure to find plenty of things to make
your stay enjoyable. Some things not to miss include the famous baroque
Palacio del Marqués de Dos Aguas; the Museo de Bellas Artes, one of the
best museums in the country with works from El Greco, Velázquez and Goya;
the Ciudad de las Artes y de las Ciencias which is a huge complex devoted
to science and the arts; and a visit to the Cathedral is rewarding if you
climb to the top of the tower, which offers magnificent views of the city.
There are also some very attractive gardens to visit such as Jardín
Botánico and the promenade along the seafront is a pleasant place to
sunbathe or enjoy some seafood.
Alicante
The second largest city of Valencian Community, dominated by the Moorish
castle Castillo de Santa Barabara. Alicante's exceptional location between
the mountains and the sea provides the city with a special kind of
enrapturing beauty. The city, wherever one roams, is pervaded with the
savour of the sea, playing its deeply-felt role as a seaport, as it has
always done.
As Juan Gil-Albert said, "Alicante looks uninterruptedly to the
Mediterranean", or in the words of Gabriel Miró "my city is pierced
through and through by the Mediterranean". Another native author, Joan
Fuster, wrote that Alicante "is without a doubt, the friendliest of all
Valencian cities, a city one would choose to live in if one were to
exchange a village for a city".
This love, care and affection shown to Alicante stems from two premises,
the first of which is its privileged location and the second the mildness
of its climate, with an average year round temperature of 18° C.
Castellon
The most remarkable monuments are the cathedral Santa Maria and the town-hall.
Located on the fertile plain known as La Plana between the mountains and
the sea, the city of Castellón de la Plana lies on the intersection of the
40th parallel and the 0° meridian.
As capital of one of the most mountainous provinces in Spain, yet bathed
by the Mediterranean along its 112 km of coastline, Castellón is a forward-looking
city in which broad, modern avenues and narrow streets and plazas from
yesteryear combine to form a special atmosphere. A walk around town is a
pleasant experience. On your stroll, you can find many pleasant surprises:
beautiful modernist buildings, modern shops, shady parks and important
Gothic and Renaissance monuments.
With its deep cultural roots, Castellón de la Plana celebrates its history
with fiestas and annual events throughout the year. A look towards the sea
confirms the Mediterranean style of Castellón de la Plana. Its carefully
attended beaches lay on both sides of the port through which a large
amount of exports are shipped each year, accounting for a substantial part
of the provincial economy, based mainly on ceramic tile manufacturing,
agriculture and tourism.
The mild climate of the coastal regions owes much to the sea and the
protéction from cold northwest winds provided by the mountain spurs of the
Desert de les Palmes. These two factors have a decisive influence on the
city's mean annual temperature of 17°C., enabling outdoor activities to be
practised throughout the year.
Costa Blanca
One of the most famous Spanish coasts. Its magnificent sand beaches and
ideal installations made it a first rate touristic center. Among the most
important cities are Denia, Calpe, and Benidorm with its outstanding hotel
infrastructure and boiling nightlife.
Costa Azahar
The "Orange-Blossom-Coast", in the north of Valencia, not only offers
great beaches but as well beautiful towns as Peñiscola with its great
medieval castle or Oropesa, which conserves the 16th century Tower of the
King, erected as a defense against pirates. A true pearl is the enchanting
Morella with its narrow lanes, enclosed by 14th century walls.
