The best selling Comanche
series returns with this fast-paced action game that places you at
the controls of a Comanche RAH-66 helicopter. In over 30 missions,
the game combines serious firepower with effortless controls and
stunning, interactive terrain.
This Comanche 4 demo includes both singleplayer and multiplayer
gameplay.
The multiplayer death match level, Cityscape, where up to 16
gamers can play against each other online via NovaWorld, has been
designed to give gamers a taste of the multiplayer challenges that
await them in the final version of the game. The single player
level, Silver Strike, has been taken from the retail version of
Comanche 4.
Comanche 4 is one of the best games I have
played this year. Now when I rate games I am very tough but this
game is just amazing for many reasons.
1. some of the best graphics I have seen in a sim
2. perfect difficulty levels three is just enough.
3. great gameplay
4. excellent controls
5. smart AI
6. excellent selection of weapons
and 7. very realistic
This game is a must buy no matter if you're
a hard core gamer or someone who has never played a sim like this
before. To all the parents out there this is a great christmas
gift.
Realism is found once again when examining
the game’s collective sounds. Voice acting is natural, and
enhances the militaristic feel. The sound effects are well matched
with the visuals, and once again the effect is highly life-like.
The constant hum of your helicopter’s rotors is often drowned out
by the oh-so-gratifying explosions and thunderous cannon-fire.
All of this fun does have a price, however. Comanche 4 has
a lot to offer, but technical stability is not at the top of this
list. Patches are available, yet bugs persist. Occasionally, the
game halts and sends you back to your operating system…this can be
very frustrating because you can’t save your progress in the
middle of a mission. At times, and this is rare, the sound just
decides to go away. This problem usually resolves itself after a
reboot, but once again it is a real pain to lose your place in
these increasingly difficult missions. In the Comanche 4
folder of your start menu resides an update utility, which you
should run as soon as you install because updates are already
available. Hopefully an update will eventually resolve these and
any other problems in this title. At the time of this review,
NovaWorld (Novalogic’s game servers) was experiencing problems
that prevent use of multiplayer options. Multiplayer is always a
huge factor in a game’s appeal, and C4 is no exception. NovaWorld’s
problems will (hopefully) eventually be fixed and perhaps the most
fun part of Comanche 4 will see the light of day.
All things considered, C4 is a credit to Novalogic. It is a fun-filled,
fast-action title with missions of all difficulty levels, which is
achieved at the cost of in depth graphics and technical stability.
With the included update utility, at least one of these downfalls
may eventually be lessened in degree. Let’s not forget the mission
editor, which provides for an unlimited gaming experience.
