FSX Coast Guard Hovercraft
Fully amphibious hovercraft are propelled by air screws (propellers) and are supported by a cushion of air retained within a flexible structure. Once on "hover" the body of the Hovercraft is lifted and there is no hard structure contact with the surface being transited. Over relatively smooth surfaces, sea or land, the flexible structure and cushion of air provides a very low friction interface, consequently high speeds can be achieved. Fully amphibious hovercraft, depending on size and type, can typically travel at 30 to 50 knots over relatively smooth water. Speeds are reduced as the sea state worsens because of the increase in wave drag on the flexible structure. Additionally strong headwinds will reduce the efficiency of the air screw propulsion. FSX Douglas DC-7C KLM DC-7C Carribean Sea
DC-7C PH-DSH "Caraibische Zee" / "Carribean Sea" c/n 45187 was delivered to KLM in july 1957 and served until 1963. This is the color scheme of about 1962. KLM used 15 DC7C's from 1957 to 1965. The DC-7C was a complete redesign abandoning the wing of the DC-4 allowing a further substantial increase in fuel and oil capacity. Updated engines gave slightly more power for take off and climb, but since the DC-7C was 17,000lbs heavier than the DC-7B performance was significantly reduced.
